Das neu eröffnete Mad Monkey Hostel in Luang Prabang bietet günstige Unterkunft für Backpacker. Für ihre Bar und ihren Frühstücksbereich habe ich ihnen Menuboards kalligrafiert. Gar nicht so einfach, weil in Laos manche Dinge - wie beispielsweise die weissen Kreidestifte - fast unmöglich erhältlich sind, besonders wenn die Zeit drängt. Ausgerüstet mit einem dickeren Stift als eigentlich erhofft, bin ich doch einigermassen vorwärts gekommen. Etwas später habe ich für sie dazu eine Landkarte von Südostasien mit wichtigen Bus- Flug und Bootsverbindungen gemalt. Die Karte nimmt die Farben des Hostels auf (Blau und Rot) und ist vom Stil her an die Menuboards angelehnt. Schön, mal wieder etwas von Hand zu machen!

The newly opened Mad Monkey Hostel in Luang Prabang offers inexpensive accommodation for backpackers. For their bar and breakfast area, I wrote/painted these menuboards. It was a bit tricky, as many materials, like the chalk pens, are not easy to get in Laos. With a pen that was thicker than I had hoped for, we still managed to create these boards. A little bit later, I also painted a Southeastasia-Map for them, featuring important bus- flight- and boatroutes. The map features the colors of the hostel (red and blue) and complements the style of the menu boards. It is nice to create something by hand from time to time!
